On the evening of 14th October 2023, friends and residents from all walks of life came together at the GMI/Pheonix Impact Centre to contribute to our noble cause of combatting food insecurity among needy children in Africa. In a heartwarming display of solidarity and compassion, we rallied together for our fundraiser event which proved to be a resounding success, gathering an abundance of food donations to support those in need.

Speaking during the event, the Founder of End African Children Hunger Foundation, Franca Adetunji, disclosed that the motivation for setting up the organization was a genuine concern for the millions of starving and malnourished children across the world, and Africa in particular.

“It’s heartbreaking to think that there are kids out there who may not have enough to eat. So, first and foremost, it was about making sure no child goes to bed hungry. I was determined to make a tangible and positive impact on the overall well-being by providing nutritional support which would enhance their overall health, well-being, and even their ability to learn and thrive in other aspects of life,” she said.

The event featured a diverse range of activities and attractions, ensuring that there was something for everyone. From live music and dance performances, games and a pageantry, to delicious food, attendees were entertained and educated throughout the day.

Guests who attended the event were delighted to participate in this meaningful initiative. Ekanem who resides in Arizona shared, “It’s heartwarming to see so many people coming together to help those who are less fortunate. This event has not only brought joy to the community but also will provide vital assistance to those in need.”

We were very overwhelmed by the support and generosity of those who attended. Abayomi Adetunji, our Senior Director of Global Grants Acquisition and Partnerships, expressed his gratitude, saying, “We are truly amazed at the outpouring of support from within and outside our community. The donations collected today will make a significant difference in the lives of those struggling with food insecurity in our area.”

The impact of this fundraiser event promises to be far-reaching, as donations collected at the event will be distributed to local food banks, shelters, and community organizations that serve children in need during our annual outreach programmes in Africa. This remarkable display of compassion is a testament to the power of community and the potential for positive change when people come together for a common cause.
It serves as a powerful reminder that, when individuals come together for a common cause, they can make a significant impact and create positive change. The hope is that this event will inspire others to continue supporting initiatives aimed at combating hunger.
